Y Gallery NY
Marzo 2017 – Mayo 2017
Death Drive explored the psychoanalytic concept of Thanatos—the inner impulse toward destruction and stasis—as theorized by Freud and expanded by Lacan. The exhibition examined the tension between Eros (the life drive) and Thanatos (the death drive), understanding this duality as a continuous, creative force shaping human experience.
Through sculpture, performance, video, and installation, the participating artists reflected on pain, endurance, transformation, and the anxiety of absence—proposing that negativity can act as a catalyst for creation.
Featuring artists:
Luis Alonzo-Barkigia, Shay Arick, Alberto Borea, Ryan Brown, Oliver Bulas, Ori Carino & Benjamin Armas, Christoph Draeger, Christopher Van Ginhoven, Katya Kan, Zebadiah Keneally, Hernan Rivera Luque, Anuar Maauad, Bjørn Melhus, and G.T. Pellizzi.
The exhibition revealed how destruction and desire coexist as generative forces, positioning art as a space where the boundaries between life and death, presence and disappearance, are constantly negotiated.
